"If water settles and becomes still, we can see all sorts of things reflected in it.
Likewise, when the mind is settled, wisdom is resplendent.
The illuminating light of wisdom surpasses all other light."
(Ajahn Chah)

"There is no reality except the one contained within us. That is why so many people live such an unreal life. They take the images
outside of them for reality and never allow
the world within to assert itself. "
(Hermann Hesse)

"Mental violence has no potency and injures
only the person whose thoughts are violent.
It is otherwise with mental non-violence. It
has potency which the world does not yet know."
(Mahatma Gandhi)

MEDITATION ~ The “new” Mind/Body Medicine
By Rukhshana Surty, Director, Harmoni Center: Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Therapeutic Massage, teacher and inspirational speaker
(Article printed in Chi Magazine, July 2008)

There is nothing ‘new’ about meditation!

Cultures around the world have always included some form of meditation in their traditions and religious beliefs.

For thousands of years, they have recognized the value of meditation to alleviate pain and suffering and to promote healing.

It is time to slow down, smell the roses and indulge in some introspection and self-nurturing behaviour. Instead of allowing yourself to be caught up in the fast pace of your outside world, and those around you, stop….take a deep breath….

Meditation is not simply a Hindu or Buddhist method of religious worship nor is it a New Age fad. Meditation is for each and every one of us! Based on current research, more doctors are prescribing meditation as a way to lower blood pressure, improve exercise performance, help people breathe easier, relieve insomnia, lessen pain and generally relax away the everyday stresses of life. Meditation is a safe and simple way to balance a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. The yogis and sages of our past sure knew a thing or two.

Meditation is an ancient, noble practice that encompasses the highest form of loving and healing. Meditation is to the body what the laboratory is to science. It is a contemplative practice that is simple, free and always available. It is the art of ‘un-doing’, a kind of organic release and letting go of all we are attached to, a special feeling of being suspended, with no demands made on our time, our space, our love, or anything else…so we can focus all of our attention only on who we are. It is really just a way to reach deep down inside ourselves and reconnect with the Source from which we originally flowed into this body. Meditation is a return to love, a return to our true home, a return to inner peace. Meditation teaches us to practice detachment – a true retreat from the drama of everyday life. When you ‘sit’ (meditate), you simply enter into a loving commitment to know Self – to honor who you are, connect with your real needs and authentic life’s calling and follow your inner bliss.

Let’s heal ourselves…let’s heal the planet…Let’s Meditate!

Breathwork

Monthly Breathwork sessions are held on the first Friday of every month from 4:30 - 6:00 pm with Sabine.

MOST OF OUR ENERGY should come from breathing, yet most of us access only 20% of our full breathing capacity, leaving our cells starved for oxygen and compromising optimum health. Improper breathing either causes or worsens every illness.

Learning how to expand your breath in natural and healthy ways can help
not only with various medical conditions, (asthma, poor digestion, insomnia, high blood pressure, panic attacks, stress, etc.), but can increase longevity and support your quest for well-being and self-transformation.

Greening your Body

By Denis Ouellette

Going Green is the new cool. It seems like everyone is interested in finding ways to preserve our natural resources and take better care of our planet.
Maybe it took impending crises and hitting everyone in the pocketbook to wake us up... and I believe it’s never too late... but let’s talk about how the cleanup needs to start at
home—and within.

How is your own biological terrain doing? Toxic waste dump? Junk-food depository? How many of us could describe ourselves as: stressed-out, caffeine-fueled, fatigueridden,
over-extended financially, emotionally and physically... backed-up with past injury, illness or trauma, or overly medicated, both over and under the counter (or barstool)? To paraphrase: “Stop my body, I want to get off!”

So let’s do a whoah right here... Let’s overview some facts and some history that will help you understand how your body works, how we got into this mess, and some strategies on how to get out...Download full article GREENING YOUR BODY - By Denis Ouellette
